The population was 20,246 at the 2000 census.
As of the census of 2000, there were 20,246 people, 5,534 households, and 4,775 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,529.3 people per square mile (590.4/km²). There were 5,808 housing units at an average density of 438.7/sq mi (169.4/km²).
The racial makeup of the city was 95.30% White, 0.20% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.29% Pacific Islander, 2.00% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.25% of the population. 32.0% were of English, 10.9% American, 7.0% German and 6.6% Danish ancestry according to Census 2000. 93.9% spoke English and 5.2% Spanish as their first language.
Spanish Fork has a large British (English, Scottish and Irish, though they came from the US) and Scandinavian imprint of the city's population.
